About Petr Cancura

Born in Eastern Europe, Petr Cancura has a Masters Cum Laude from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He has lived in New York City as a professional musician for a decade before moving to Ottawa, Canada. He has been an Artist in Residence at Carleton university, the Musical Director of the Crossroads series at the National Arts Centre, is the Program Director of the Ottawa Jazz Festival and the president of Jazz Festivals Canada.

Cancura has released several albums, has been nominated for a JUNO award and has won the Independent Music Award for best instrumental album. His latest releases include an album featuring Kenny Wollesen, Tony Scherr and Rob Jost; an album featuring Jesse Zubot, Jean Martin and Gord Grdina. Petr will be soon be releasing an album with the great Charlie Hunter. 

Petr Cancura has performed with Grammy-nominated Danilo Perez, Grammy-nominated Julian Lage, Bob Moses, Joe Morris, Jacek Kochan, Jamie Cullum, Aretha Franklin, Kathleen Edwards, Kenny Wollesen, Joe Maneri, Richie Barshay Cecil McBee, Mighty Popo, among many more.
